Ruhr-Sieg-Radweg from Meschede to Kirchen (Sieg)
You'll ride mostly along former railroad rights-of-way along Biggesee from Attendorn to Olpe and through the Fledermaustunnel between Eslohe and Finnentrop.

The Ruhr-Sieg-Radweg connects the Ruhr and Sieg rivers. About half of the route follows former railroad tracks, allowing for a mostly flat ride through the low mountain range landscape. The route begins at the train station in Meschede and continues via Eslohe to Finnentrop. There’s plenty to discover along the way—for example, the DampfLandLeute Museum in Eslohe or the famous “Bat Tunnel” near Fehrenbracht.
From Finnentrop, the route continues via Attendorn to Olpe. This section runs along Biggesee, one of Westfalen’s largest reservoirs, and the historic Altstadt of Attendorn and Olpe are well worth a detour. From Olpe, the route first heads to Wenden. Here, it’s worth visiting the Wendener Hütte, the oldest and still exceptionally well-preserved charcoal blast furnace complex in the German-speaking world.
Through the 400-meter-long Hohenhain Tunnel, the bike path leads to the historic town center of Freudenberg in the Siegerland region and from there to Niederfischbach, where the “Siegerland Cathedral” is a great spot to take a break. Finally, the route continues to Kirchen an der Sieg, where the 20-meter-high basalt formation at the Druidenstein sacred site in the Herkersdorf district is well worth a detour.

Safety guidelines
An emergency shelter system has been set up throughout the region (Soest District, Hochsauerland District, Märkischer Kreis, Olpe District, and Siegen-Wittgenstein District). You can find emergency shelters on information boards at intersections and on hiking trail signs, among other places.

Public transit
There are excellent rail connections to Meschede. There are regular trains from Kassel, Dortmund, and Hagen.
How to get there
From the west: Take the A44 to the Werl interchange. Continue on the A445 and A46 toward Arnsberg/Meschede. Take the Meschede exit.
From the north: Take the A2 to the Rheda-Wiedenbrück exit. Continue on the B55 toward Lippstadt/Meschede.
From the south: Take the A45 to the Olpe exit. Continue on the B55 toward Meschede.

Meschede has a parking guidance system that directs drivers to central parking lots. The downtown area is divided into four zones. These are:
